What to expect when your Esteem® battery begins to deplete.
The Esteem has a battery that lasts approximately 4.5 to 9 years. (Based on laboratory testing, battery life may be reduced to 2.8 years if continually exposed to very loud sound levels using the highest gain settings.) The battery is housed in the Sound Processor #2 shown below) in the temporal bone.
If you think your battery is depleting contact your Esteem surgical site or Envoy Medical Customer Service at 800-460-7531 for assistance.
The Sound Processor is essentially the brain of the device and holds the battery component as well as the software. When the battery depletes, the entire Sound Processor is replaced.
When the battery reaches the end of its life, the Sound Processor will need to be removed and replaced. The procedure is typically outpatient and usually takes about 45 to 60 minutes to complete.
The device is typically turned on after the battery change procedure is completed.
