Querying Your Esteem® Implant to the Programmer - And Checking the Battery

Using your programmer to query your Esteem device helps ensure the implant is "synced" with the Personal Programmer being used. When to Query:

  •  If you haven't used your Personal Programmer for more than a couple of days
  • After being seen for programming by an audiologist
  • After changing the batteries in the Personal Programmer
  • After turning your device off for an MRI scan
  • In the event of perceived intermittency, static, unexpected beeping
  • To determine the current settings
  • If communication between the Personal Programmer & Implant is unsuccessful or shows an unusual LED display

How to Query:

1. Turn on the Personal Programmer by pressing and holding the "Standby" button for a few moments; lights will illuminate.

2. Press the "Query" button (see figure above).

3.  Locate the "Transmit" button.

4. Hold the programmer directly over the implanted Esteem and press the "Transmit" button.

5. Check Profile LED and Volume Setting Display on the programmer.  If the Profile LED and Volume Settings Display are steady, the query was successful and the Profile LED light and LED screen indicate what profile and volume level you are currently in.

6. If the Query LED  is blinking,  communication was not successful; repeat steps 2-5.

7. If communication is still unsuccessful, see Tips and Troubleshooting.

If you notice the LED  screen blinking this means the communication was not successful. Repeat the steps, adjusting the placement of the personal programmer over the device.
